Plymouth Hoe and Sir Francis Drake.
The Hoe - perhaps best known as the place where Sir Francis Drake was playing a game of bowls when England was about to be invaded by The Spanish Armanda.
Superb views across the natural harbour that is Plymouth Sound to Fort Bovisand in the East, and West across to Mount Edgecumbe Country Park, with Drakes Island guarding the entrance to the Tamar. All dominated by the Royal Citadel, take a guided tour.
Also on the Hoe is Plymouth Dome, an all weather attraction, offering an insight into the towns past. Audiovisual presentations, the sights sounds and even smells of an Elizabethan Street. Above the Dome is Smeatons Tower,constructed in 1759, once standing guard over the Eddystone Reef 20 miles off Plymouth, moved to the Hoe in 1852 when its foundations started to collapse in the 19th century.
